A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step…
…and now we’re nearing the finish line!
Steady progress on the design for the new and improved Demmer Memorial Library means we’re looking forward to starting construction in spring of 2018!
Here’s how you can help:
- Additional financial support will give the committee room to add those beautiful and enhanced functionality touches that are currently just beyond our reach. Pledge online or mail a check to T.L.P.L.F., PO Box 283, Three Lakes, WI 54562.
- Plan to be a Demmer Library book foster parent: during the 10 month construction process, we will need to move out of the current library and into temporary space. You can help us reduce the number of materials we need to move and cut down on moving costs by checking out 100 items to keep safely at your home until we move back in!
- Sign up to volunteer to keep library services going during construction. We will still be checking out books, providing public internet and wi-fi, doing programs, and all the usual things during construction. Staff will be busy with a lot of things, so your help volunteering to shelve books, be a book runner, covering and processing books, or whatever needs to be done is critical.
In 2009, our dream of an updated and expanded Demmer began with a meeting of the Demmer Library Building Committee. What followed was a detailed needs assessment by the committee including a community survey, then a building assessment by an architect, and finally some proposed designs and a fundraising campaign.
Now, not yet 10 years later, we have $1,000,000 raised in private funds, $900,000 from the Town of Three Lakes through a building funding referendum that passed in November 2016, $100,000 pledged by the Three Lakes Historical Society to support physical space and the beginning of a new partnership inside the Demmer Library building.
And we have a beautiful new conceptual design by Hoffman Planning, Design & Building, Inc., that the architects, with the help of a dedicated Design & Construction Committee, are quickly turning into engineered plans that we hope to put out to bid in January.
Now we need your help to finish this marathon and cross the finish line!
