The Demmer Library is now equipped with a hearing loop to enhance hearing aid devices used by patrons. A hearing loop provides a magnetic wireless signal that is picked up by hearing aids equipped with a telecoil setting that serves as a customized wireless loudspeaker for the wearer. Telecoil technology provides a clear signal without any background noise that is unobtrusive in a public service setting, thus enabling conversations that ensure privacy for hearing impaired individuals of all ages.
The project is being coordinated by the Wisconsin Valley Library Service with Library Services and Technology Act funds awarded to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
